Tarkovskiy. On the Set of the World
Exhibition architecture
Museum and Exhibition Center, Ivanovo
330 m2
23.07–14.08.2022
In 2022, during the Zerkalo International Film Festival, a large-scale photo project “Tarkovsky: on the set of the world” opened.
Various photographers worked on Tarkovsky’s film sets, some of them began to film what was happening next to the camera without work necessity. Sergei Bessmertny worked as a technician servicing film equipment on the set of “Stalker” and left one of the most memorable photographic evidence of the Zone. Leila Alexander-Garrett was a translator for Tarkovsky’s team on the “Sacrifice” set and preserved the photographic image and atmosphere of the island where filming took place. The director seemed to influence not only the reality in front of the camera lens, but also the world of the film set, encouraging members of the group to photograph the people, places and circumstances of future films.
The exhibition also presents works by Igor Gnevashev, Nelly Fomina, Vladimir Murashko, Arvo Ikho, Rashit Safiullin and Farit Gubaev, and includes photographs from the archives of the Museum of Cinema and Mosfilm, the Andrei Tarkovsky Museum Center in Yuryevets. Visitors are presented with videos about the work on “Stalker” and a multimedia version of the book by artist Rashit Safiulin.
