The exhibition “Freedom and Wilderness: From Kenozerye to Pomorye” at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve is dedicated to the cultural and natural landscape of the Russian North. Rather than offering a conventional narrative about the region, the exhibition creates a sensory experience of it: through architecture, light, rhythm, and spatial composition, visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of northern silence and vastness.

A central curatorial device is the metaphor of the horizon, embedded within the very structure of the exhibition halls. The objects are presented as autonomous artistic statements, without traditional reconstructions of everyday life. A special focus is placed on the “heavens” — painted ceiling elements from northern churches — for which a distinct spatial display logic has been created. A restrained color palette and an introductory multimedia hall further enhance the immersive experience.
